The Salvation Army's Women's Auxiliary will be hosting their 18th Annual Helping Handbags event this October, back and better than ever! We are excited to have Kitty O'Neal from KFBK/I-Heart Radio back as our Mistress of Ceremonies! “Color Our World” is this year’s theme! Color plays a vitally important role in the world in which we live. Color can sway thinking, change actions, and cause reactions. When used in the right ways, color can even save on energy consumption. It brings new beginnings.

We intend to spread love and light that we hope to impact through this fundraiser. This event raises critical funds to support quality programs for women, children, and men in need throughout the greater Sacramento area. Over 600 women have attended in past years and raised around $1.4 million thanks to the support of the community.

For all those who have shared this event with us; we couldn’t do this without you and your valued support!

Join us on October 1, 2022, for our next shopping experience like no other and a luncheon to follow! There will be an amazing selection of over 200 bags: every size, shape, color, price, and of course bringing back our lovely designer brands! We will also have a charming “Boutique” with items priced starting at just $20 and under. Register early for a chance to win one of our marvelous door prizes!

Tickets are only $60 and sponsorships opportunities sell anywhere from $500 to $5,000. It’s a magnificent time to be had by all that attend! We hope to see you all there!

Programs that the Women's Auxiliary supports:

Birthday-In-A-Bag

There are no more sad faces from forgotten birthdays at The Salvation Army’s child development center’s Alhambra Preschool Program. The Women’s Auxiliary has a committee that creates a bag full of birthday party supplies and presents for each underprivileged child that attends the child development program. The parents take home the bag and are able to celebrate the child’s special day with a birthday party.

Women of Hope

The Women of Hope program offers hope and resources to women who have found themselves in The Salvation Army’s Women’s Shelter or Transitional Housing in Sacramento. Education, training, preparation, and a sense of self-worth is given to each woman to enable her the tools to find a job and to discover a new future. The women are given a Welcome Basket when they and their families move into the Transitional Living Center.

Angel Tree

Each holiday season, members of the Women’s Auxiliary spend countless hours collecting and purchasing toys and clothing for The Army’s Angel Tree Program. The experience enriches the lives of volunteers, as well as the children that receive the gifts at Christmas.

Camp Del Oro

Nestled in the Sierra foothills, Camp Del Oro is a summer residential camp offering five fun-filled days of recreation and education. Campers have an opportunity to appreciate nature in an outdoor setting, while being in a well supervised, safe, and wholesome Christian atmosphere.

The Women’s Auxiliary provides funds for various projects at Camp Del Oro from camp scholarships to the building of the camp Snack Shack.

Culinary Arts Training Program

The Women’s Auxiliary supports the 16-week intensive training course for both men and women that develops kitchen skills to support meaningful employment opportunities.
